Harris County Attorney's Office - Multiple Vacancies - January 16, 2021
The Harris County Attorney's Office is interested in attorneys for the office! For those unfamiliar, Christian Menefee is our new County Attorney! He was just elected in November; you can learn more about him here: https://www.menefeeforhc.com/. Christian has an ambitious agenda on a variety of fronts and so is in search of great legal talent!
The Harris County Attorney’s Office is a great place to work, and, with Christian’s leadership, will only get much better. We have 125 lawyers (and counting) and over 250 employees in total. At a high level, the office (1) counsels County government (of which Judge Lina Hidalgo is the head) to ensure programs, contracts, policies, etc. comply with applicable law; (2) brings lawsuits against business or individuals to benefit the collective good of Harris County residents; (3) represents the County, County elected officials, and County employees when they are sued; (4) represents Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in cases involving neglected and abused children; and (5) represents Texas and Harris County Guardianship Program in mental health proceedings. There are opportunities for litigators and transactional attorneys, and opportunities for junior as well as senior folks.
These are high-profile positions. On the litigation side, for example, the office is in the Texas Supreme Court and the Fifth Circuit all the time—an attorney has the opportunity to be on the top of a brief and do an argument in no time.
Working in this office is an amazing opportunity. It’s also a tremendously exciting time to be in the office with a slate of new leaders coming in, the most exciting of which is obviously Christian. This is a chance to get in at the start.
