AABA joins sign-on letter asking Department of Commerce Secretary Ross to reinstate Sherry Chen's employment.

  • 22 May 2018

On May 22nd, the AABA signed a letter requesting Department of Commerce (Commerce) Secretary Ross to reinstate Sherry Chen's employment. Briefly - Sherry Chen is a US citizen who worked for the National Weather Service predicting floods. Everything changed after a trip to visit her elderly parents in China. When Sherry returned to the US, she was accused and prosecuted for espionage and her employment was terminated. The government dropped all criminal charges prior to trial. On April 23, 2018, a judge with the USA Merit Systems Protection Board determined Sherry was a victim of "gross injustice" and ordered Commerce to restore her job. However, Commerce will not and intends to appeal the decision.
