About the AABA

The Asian American Bar Association of Houston (AABA) is a voluntary organization of attorneys, judges, and law students of Asian heritage or who have Asian American interests. Founded in 1984, the AABA's membership reflects all aspects of Houston's Asian American legal community. In coordinating social events, continuing legal education, and pro bono and volunteer opportunities, the AABA promotes the Houston society of Asian American lawyers and addresses the needs of Houston's Asian American community.

At the clinic, each volunteer attorney will conduct approximately 4-5 intake interviews of clients seeking pro bono representation from Houston Volunteer Lawyers.

2017 AABF Grants and Scholarship Applications - Deadline August 18, 2017 Friday, August 18, 2017 More Info The Asian American Bar Foundation of Houston has posted the applications for its 2017 grants and scholarships.

Applications can be accessed on the AABF's website at http://www.aabfhouston.org/opportunities.php.

Grant and scholarship recipients will be honored at the AABA Gala on Friday, September 15, 2017.

The following grants and scholarships are open for application:

2 Community Organization Grants (up to $5,000 each, for a total of $10,000). This is targeted to 501)(c)(3) organizations whose purpose is consistent with the AABF purpose. (deadline of August 18, 2017)

1-3 APALSA Grants (up to $1,000 each, for a total of $1,000-3,000). These grants are specifically targeted to the APALSAs of UH, South Texas and Thurgood Marshall to the extent they apply and have need. (deadline of August 31, 2017)

Pro Bono Scholarship Fall 2017 (for $4,000). The AABF seeks to award one scholarship to an individual who will further their legal education and training while primarily being exposed to the pro bono programs and legal practice at Houston Volunteer Lawyers which generally educate and serve Asian American lawyers in communities in the greater Houston and surrounding areas. The deadline for applications is August 18, 2017.

Herbert W. Gee Memorial Scholarship (for $3,000). In light of the passing of Judge Herbert Gee (who was a founding member of the AABA and a past president), we honor his memory by awarding a scholarship in his name. This is the seventh year of the Scholarship and is to pay for tuition and/or academic expenses. (deadline of August 18, 2017)
